Babak Kazemi belongs to a new generation of Iranian photographers. From the age of 13, Kazemi acquired expertise in the classical skills of photography by self-instruction. To this day, traditional techniques and his experimentation with chemicals – at times similar to that of an alchemist – shape and influence his work. His works are included in the collections of the Museum of Contemporary Photography, Chicago, USA; the Maraya Art Centers, Sharjah, UAE; the Tehran Museum of Contemporary Arts, Tehran, Iran; as well as the Tehran Holy Defense Museum, Tehran, Iran. Kazemi’s work was selected as part of a group exhibition at the Iranian Pavilion for the Venice Biennial 2015. He carries various international art awards.
