Artist Parastou Forouhar was born in Tehran, Iran in 1962 and studied art at the University of Tehran from 1984 to 1990. Earned her MA from the Aufbaustudium an der Hochschule fur Gestaltung in Offenbach, Germany in 1994. As a result, the subject matter of her work is largely autobiographical. Themes of her work include gender and identity, particularly the lives and sexuality of women, as well as religious and political issues pertaining to Iran. Forouhar has had a number of solo exhibitions worldwide, particularly in Germany, including The Grass is Green, the Sky is Blue and She is Black, Museum Lindwurm, Stein am Rhein (2017); Kiss Me, Rose Issa projects, London (2014); Parastou Forouhar at RH Gallery, NY (2010) and Leighton House, London (2010). Group exhibitions include The Fascination of Persia, Rietberg Museum, Zurich (2013); Agoraphobia, Azad Gallery, Tehran (2015); Rebel, Jester, Mystic, Poet: Contemporary Persians, Aga Khan Museum, Toronto – Museum of Fine Arts, Houston (2017).
